2009 WSOP – Two New Events

April 30, 2009

Two new events are being trotted out for the 2009 WSOP, and they are both guaranteed to shake things up, albeit in very different ways. The first is an event for the die-hard professionals, while the second is more for the everyday players of poker, but both should be very exciting.

$40,000 No Limit Hold’em

The first new event is the dream of every poker player and will be on the schedule for the first and last time – the 40th Annual $40,000 no limit hold’em event. This event is the highest buy-in event ever after the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event. However, since hold’em is played by many more people than H.O.R.S.E., the $40,000 no limit event, created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the WSOP, will probably have a prize pool in the many millions of dollars. Expect to see live poker at its best. All the greats of the game sitting will be sitting down with some of the most successful Internet pros of recent years competing for the big money.

$3000 Triple Chance No Limit Hold’em

Coming much later in the schedule, the triple chance no limit hold’em event is sure to be popular with fans of the game. This event was partially created to fill the void left when the series took rebuy events out of the schedule for 2009. However, some players still wanted some protection against early bad beats. Hence, triple chance no limit hold’em. The principle behind this event is that each player can get two add-ons any time in the first three levels, and gets them automatically if they have not taken them by the end of this time. This allows a player to get back in the game if they get their aces cracked in the first round, but doesn’t allow any large-bankrolled players to get a massive amount of chips on the table and steamroll everybody.
